Getting in early at the right startup can change your life. Here is who is hiring across ANZ, and why.
- Maincode (Melbourne). Building Australia’s own frontier AI model. Tiny team, around 10 open AI roles. About as early as it gets, which is when equity is worth the most.
- Lorikeet (Sydney). AI customer support co-founded by an ex-Stripe exec, used by Airwallex, Linktree and Eucalyptus. Fast growing, and equity is part of the pitch.
- Relevance AI (Sydney). Building the AI workforce. Powering Canva, Databricks and Activision. Named LinkedIn’s #1 startup in Australia. Listings mention a meaningful equity stake.
- Lyrebird Health (Melbourne). AI medical scribe used in thousands of clinics. Series A, small team, engineering roles open.
- Heidi (Melbourne). AI medical scribe used across 116 countries and 110 languages. Scaling globally.
- Harrison.ai (Sydney). Medical imaging AI. Hiring engineers and go-to-market.
- Tracksuit (Auckland and Sydney). AI brand tracking, 1,000+ customers. Every “Trackstar” gets a slice through their employee share scheme. 14+ roles open.
- Auror (Auckland). AI for retail crime, used by some of the world’s biggest retailers. Employee share scheme, 5+ roles open.
- Halter (Auckland). NZ agritech at a US$2B valuation. Later stage, still scaling fast across NZ, Australia and the US. Share scheme for the whole team.
The honest bit
Equity is a long game. Most startups do not make it. Read the terms, ask how the share scheme works, and do not take a pay cut you cannot afford. But if you have been thinking about it, these are good places to start looking.
